Blackberry simple syrup is a purple-hued fruit syrup with a sweet-tart taste. Stir this delicious syrup into lattes, iced tea, cocktails, or non-alcoholic drinks. It's a must-have for your favorite drinks, desserts, and more!
Heat the water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Constantly stir until the sugar dissolves then add the blackberries.
Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes (10 minutes for fresh blackberries, 15 minutes for frozen), stirring occasionally. If the berries haven't broken down on their own, you can gently mash them with a fork.
Place a fine mesh strainer over a glass jar and pour the blackberry syrup through. Use the back of a spoon to gently press against the berries to help extract all the syrup. Don’t throw away the strained berries. Enjoy them on top of yogurt and granola, ice cream, or straight off the spoon. They’re so good!
Let the syrup cool to room temperature then store it in the fridge for at least an hour to chill before using it.
