WELCOME TO A nourishing Plate
Hi, I’m Lindsey.
I’m a trained natural food chef, food photographer, and writer based in Denver, and the person behind every recipe & article on this site.
I started A Nourishing Plate in 2015 after discovering my own dairy allergy at 29.
Like many people, my first reaction was overwhelm. The dairy free recipes I found were either bland, unreliable, or just didn’t work. And when they didn’t turn out, I had no idea how to fix them.
So I went back to the fundamentals. As a trained natural food chef, I already knew that real confidence doesn’t come from following recipes perfectly, it comes from understanding why things work. And it’s exactly what I want to pass on to you.
This site is different from other dairy free recipe blogs and here’s how: every single recipe includes a Make It Your Way section. It’s not just a list of swaps. It’s an invitation to think like a cook, to look at what you already have in your fridge or pantry, your dietary needs, your preferences, and make the recipe work for you. Because in cooking, recipes are just a starting point, not a rulebook.
As Samin Nosrat says, cooking is all about using your senses, especially common sense. And I couldn’t agree more. My goal isn’t to make you dependent on recipes, it’s to help you rely on them less.
What you’ll find on A Nourishing Plate:
- Dairy free recipes with lots of gluten free options
- A Make It Your Way section on every recipe with substitutions, variations, and ideas to use what you have
- Ingredient pairing guides to help you understand what flavors work together
- Substitution guides that prove you don’t need to run to the store because you’re missing one thing
- Cooking basics that build real kitchen skills, not just how to read a recipe
Whether you’re newly diagnosed with a dairy allergy, cooking for someone who is, or just trying to cook more flexibly and confidently, you’re in the right place.
I’m so glad you’re here. Cheers to good food!
