What You’ll Love About This Recipe

  • Texture – Roasting the vegetables first creates crispy Brussels sprouts. Then right before they’re served, you toss them in the hot honey mixture so they can retain their crisp texture.
  • Balanced flavor – This side dish isn’t too sweet or too spicy. It’s a nice balance between the two. However, you can always customize it to make it spicier or less spicy if you prefer.
  • Simple ingredients – This easy recipe is made with minimal ingredients yet packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make these sweet and spicy brussels sprouts:

  • Fresh Brussels sprouts
  • Extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil
  • Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • Frank’s Red Hot Sauce – or another vinegar-based hot sauce such as Cholula.
  • Raw honey – local honey if possible.
  • Dairy free butter – or unsalted butter if not dairy free.
  • Fresh garlic

How to Make Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts: Step By Step

Here are some quick visual instructions. The full instructions and ingredient list will be in the printable recipe card below!

1. Trim off the knobby ends of the Brussels sprouts, cut them in half, and discard any wilted leaves (loose leaves are fine). Add them directly to a rimmed baking sheet. Toss with olive oil, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper then arrange the brussels sprouts cut side down in a single layer. Roast until golden brown and crispy.

2. Heat a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk together hot sauce, honey, dairy free butter, minced garlic, and salt. Heat for 3-5 minutes stirring often until it comes to a gentle simmer. Remove from the heat and adjust the flavors as needed.

3. Remove the Brussels sprouts from the oven and pour over the hot honey glaze. Enjoy!

Helpful Tips

  • Want an extra kick? If you have homemade hot honey or Mike’s hot honey, you can use that instead of plain honey.
  • The cook time may vary depending on the size of your brussels sprouts.
  • Use frank’s red hot, NOT wing sauce – wing sauce has dairy in it. You’re looking for Frank’s red hot sauce or a similar, vinegar-based hot sauce such as Cholula.

Quick Tip: Don’t use parchment paper. The direct contact of the Brussels sprouts with the sheet pan is what yields crispy sprouts.

Storage

These brussels sprouts are best the day you make them. However, you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days.
