What You’ll Love About This Recipe
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this earl grey tea syrup:
- Organic cane sugar – my favorite type of sweetener to use. It’s not as processed as white granulated sugar, isn’t sickly sweet, and dissolves well.
- Water – to dissolve the sugar.
- Earl grey tea bags – or loose leaf tea.
How to Make Earl Grey Simple Syrup: Step By Step
Here are some quick visual instructions. The full instructions and ingredient list will be in the printable recipe card below!
- Dissolve sugar. Heat the water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Constantly stir until the sugar dissolves, then add the tea bags.
- Simmer. Reduce to a medium low heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the tea bags (or strain the loose tea).
- Cool and chill. Let the syrup cool to room temperature before storing it in the fridge for at least an hour before using.
Helpful Tips
- If using tea bags, either tie the strings around the handle of the saucepan or add the tea bags with the strings (you can tear off the tea paper leaves) so you don’t risk them accidentally touching the burner.
- If using loose earl grey tea leaves, strain them out of the syrup using a fine mesh strainer.
Quick Tip: For a stronger tea flavor, use 1-2 more tea bags or steep the tea for 20 minutes.
Storage
Fridge: Store the syrup in an airtight container or mason jar for up to 2 weeks.
Freezer: For longer storage, freeze in small portions using a silicone ice cube tray. Once frozen, pop them into a freezer-safe container.
