What You’ll Love About This Recipe

  • Quick and easy – The best part of these sheet pan nachos is how quick and easy they are to throw together.
  • Customizable – Exclude anything you don’t love and add your favorite nacho toppings. See my unique nacho topping ideas for inspiration.
  • Lots of textures – Crunchy chips, melted gooey cheese, soft beans, and crunchy vegetables create the perfect balance of different textures and flavors, which are what will keep you going back for another bite.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make nachos with ground turkey:

  • Olive oil
  • Yellow onion
  • Fresh garlic
  • Lean ground turkey
  • Black beans – could also use refried beans.
  • Taco seasoning – a blend of spices such as garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder, and more.
  • Corn tortilla chips
  • Dairy free shredded cheddar cheese – I love Miyoko’s brand.
  • Sweet pepper – I used red bell pepper.
  • Pickled jalapeno slices
  • Sliced green onions
  • Extras of choice (optional) dairy free sour cream or plain yogurt, lime wedges, salsa, etc.

How to Make Ground Turkey Nachos: Step By Step

Here are some quick visual instructions. The full instructions and ingredient list will be in the printable recipe card below!

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with olive oil. Cook the onion and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes, stirring often. Add the ground turkey and cook until no pink remains then add in black beans and taco seasoning. Cook for 1-2 more minutes then remove the skillet from the heat.
  2. Spread the tortilla chips in a single layer, slightly overlapping the edges of the chips, on a rimmed baking sheet (I used a quarter sheet pan).
  3. Sprinkle half of the cooked turkey mixture across the chips followed by shredded cheese. Repeat with another layer until you’ve used up all the filling and cheese (if using a half sheet pan, you’ll only have one layer). Bake for 8-10 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  4. Add chopped bell peppers, pickled jalapeno slices, sliced green onions, or any other toppings if desired.

Helpful Tips

  • These nachos are best the day you make them. Unfortunately, the chips become soggy the next day, even when reheated in the oven. Only assemble what you know will get eaten.

Quick Tip: If serving with salsa or sour cream/plain yogurt, serve on the side instead of putting them directly on the nachos. Otherwise, the nachos will get soggy.

Make It Your Way: Substitutions & Variations

Please remember that recipes are just a starting point.

How can you make this turkey nachos recipe using what you already have? Here are some ideas…

  • No ground turkey? – you can also use lean ground beef or ground chicken.
  • Make it vegetarian/vegan – use crumbled tofu in place of the meat for extra protein or use all beans.
  • Don’t like spicy food? – use mild sliced green chiles instead of jalapenos or omit them completely.
  • Add-ins – red onion, cubed avocado or guacamole, sliced black olives, red pepper flakes, pico de Gallo or salsa, sour cream or plain yogurt, thinly chopped romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro, etc.

Variations

  • Serve with nacho cheese – these nachos are delicious with my green chile cashew queso instead of shredded cheese. If you go this route, you don’t need to bake the nachos. Just assemble them and serve.
