What You’ll Love About This Recipe
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this fresh peach syrup:
- Organic cane sugar – my favorite type of sweetener to use. It’s not as processed as white granulated sugar, isn’t sickly sweet, and dissolves well.
- Water – to dissolve the sugar.
- Fresh peaches – Use ripe peaches during peak peach season for the best flavor.
How to Make Peach Syrup: Step By Step
Here are some quick visual instructions. The full instructions and ingredient list will be in the printable recipe card below!
- Dissolve sugar. Heat the water and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Constantly stir until the sugar dissolves, then add the peach slices.
- Simmer. Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mash the peaches with a fork as they soften to infuse more of their flavor into the syrup.
- Strain. Place a fine mesh strainer over a glass jar and pour the peach syrup through, gently pressing against the peaches to help extract all the syrup.
- Cool and store. Let the syrup cool to room temperature before storing it in the fridge.
Helpful Tips
- Easily adjust the sweetness levels depending on the sweetness of your peaches. This peach simple syrup doesn’t use equal parts sugar and water so it isn’t as sweet as simple syrups at the grocery store. Increase the amount of sugar if you prefer a sweeter syrup.
- Use fresh fruit, not frozen.
- For a thicker syrup, blend the cooked peaches with the syrup.
Quick Tip: Only use a light colored sweetener such as organic cane sugar, white sugar, or honey if you’d prefer. Avoid using brown sugar or maple syrup as it will alter the taste and color of the syrup.
Storage
Fridge: Let the syrup cool to room temperature before storing in a mason jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
Freezer: For longer storage, freeze in small portions using a silicone ice cube tray. Once frozen, pop them into a freezer-safe container.
